Mapping the Mystery: Appreciative Inquiry with Steven Clark

A monthly conversation series about mental models that can help us orient to the unknown.

Date:  Aug 17, 9-10:30 am PT/12-1:30 pm EST/6-7:30 pm CET

Steven Clark is a restorative justice facilitator and a coach who developed his approaches to group development during eighteen years of incarceration at Maine State Prison. During this experience Steven embarked on a journey of healing, atonement, and curiosity which included beginning an Awakening Program for other prisoners that taught them current practices like appreciative inquiry. Now, Steven, in conversation with David Sibbet, will share what he has learned about restorative practices in prison and share how you might apply them to your personal and professional challenges. You are invited to bring your compassion, your curiosity, and your real-life conflicts.

Steven's Background

Steven's mission is to create healing solutions for individuals impacted by the mass incarceration system. During his eighteen years of incarceration at Maine State Prison, Steven embarked on a journey of healing, atonement, and curiosity. This journey led him to earn a master's degree in positive psychology and start a PhD program with a keen interest in consciousness and noetic sciences.
Steven's expertise in criminal justice reform, meditation, mental health, substance abuse, and holistic solutions for the prison system has led him to serve on the board of the Maine State Prison restorative justice steering committee. He is also a certified ICF coach and recovery coach, and has been involved with the Maine State Prison Hospice Council, providing palliative and end of life care to men in the prison's infirmary.

Steven is passionate about expanding awareness through online exchanges and coaching services. His primary focus is on creating healing solutions for individuals impacted by the mass incarceration system, both in the home and at work. With his unique perspective and extensive experience, Steven is a valuable resource for anyone looking to implement restorative practices in their personal or professional life.
